Hosting recommendations
Where to host your portfolio site.
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Most people using a CV builder will, at some point, need somewhere to host a portfolio, a personal site or a small client project. Here is how we choose, and a disclosure-first recommendation.
Our recommendation
Set NEXT_PUBLIC_HOSTING_URL in .env.local and this section will render your offer automatically.
Full disclosure: the link above is a sponsored partner link. If you buy something through it we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra, it does not change the price, and it had no effect on the advice below.
Why we run this site the way we do
A CV tool is mostly privacy-sensitive and latency-sensitive. Your content travels to us, so the decisions we made about infrastructure were driven by keeping your data contained rather than by saving money:
- Private photo storage. Uploads sit in a private bucket, never a public one, and are only served back to your own account.
- Managed platform hosting. Edge-delivered with automatic TLS, so there is no unpatched server to maintain.
- Auth handled by a provider rather than passwords we would have to store.
- Export in your browser — your finished PDF is generated on your device, not on a server watching your CV.
What actually matters in a host
Ignore the feature list. These five things decide whether you are happy in six months:
- Uptime and support that answers. If a support ticket goes unanswered for three days, the price does not matter.
- Free SSL. Non-negotiable in 2026. If a host makes SSL an upgrade, walk away.
- Backups included and restorable without paying an extra fee.
- A free tier that will not die quietly. Useful for a portfolio you have not monetised yet.
- An honest exit. You must be able to export your site and move hosts without a support ticket.
How much hosting do you actually need?
A portfolio or CV site is a few hundred kilobytes of text and images. You do not need a dedicated server, a CDN add-on or a managed database to start. Start on the cheapest plan that supports HTTPS and deploys from Git, then move up only if real traffic demands it.
What we do not do
We do not sell hosting, we do not resell plans under our own brand, and we will not add a hosting recommendation to a page where it could be mistaken for an ad or a download button. Full details are on our advertising & partnerships page.
